The First Things First™ manual is so up-to-date that there is almost no need for a ReadMe file.
However, there are some anomalies that are known to occur between FTF and certain other programs, NONE of which crash anything, and all of which are easy to avoid, until those problems can be resolved (generally, they are due to shortcuts taken by the current versions of the other programs) but you might want to check out the list below to learn how to easily handle them.
Anomalies - Version 1.0 First Things First™
• There are a few programs which read from screen memory when scrolling (against Apple guidelines) and this can cause screen update problems. The solution is to put the clock somewhere where it does not overlap the windows of the program in question (putting the reduced clock in the menubar is useful for this). These are the ones we know of at this time:
• Word 4.0 and earlier versions - is being fixed in Word V.5.0
• Quicken 1.5 (also, it’s a good idea to turn off FTF’s hourly chime if you use Quicken often to manage multiple checkbooks)
• KidPix - this is the only program which the screen update is a real problem because the image of the clock will be incorporated into your picture.
• Hypercard - It is best not to drag the FTF floating icon around in HyperCard if you are running Hypercard stacks that hide and then show the menubar.
• SmartCom - You can speed up SmartCom’s screen scrolling (and save online time) by snapping FTF into the Menubar.
